Hyperthyroidism in cats
Q: Is it possible to get the tapazole gel from petmeds? i could only find the pills.
A: Currently we have only the tablets available. please check back regularly as we should have it available in many forms like gel, flavored liquids, etc.

Tapeworm
Q: If my cat has tapeworms, and i order the bottle with 3 pills in it will that be enough to get rid of them, or will i need more then 3 pills?
A: That depends on the weight of the cat and the medication you will be using. the veterinarian evidently ordered the 3 pills based on those factors.

Stool eating
Q: I also have a beagle that eats other dog and rabbits stool. how soon will i see the difference after i start giving my pet the deter pills? thanks
A: This product is usually effective within 2 weeks. however, if the product is not working, the manufacturer recommends using double the dose for an additional 2 weeks.

Hyperthyroidism
Q: My cat is 14 years old and has lost a lot of weight in the last couple of years. my vet's diagnosis was thyroid problems, so we were given some pills. the cat would not take them at the time, and now i cannot get a refill, because it has been over a year. i cannot take the amnilmal back to the vet, as he does not support driving, and i fear he is not going to make it. could i buy from you on line some medication appropriate for his treatment. the name of the previous one was tapazole if i remember correctly. thank you in advance, regards, zoya
A: We carry both the brand and generic equivalent for the tapazole, and with your veterinarian's approval we can also supply it in a flavored liquid if that would make administering it easier.

Pills
Q: I have to give my cat pills for thyroid and i have been mixing it with water and squriting it dawn her throat .is this alright or does it delute it to much
A: It's o.k. as long as she gets all the tablet in the mixture you are making. the dose on the thyroid is quite specific.

Chronic cough and bronchitis
Q: Hi, we have an 18 year old old english sheep dog mix. his health is relatively good but he has a constant cough. he also has a horrible skin itch condition. we have been getting him a cortizone shot periodically to help with the itch. that seems to wear off after about a month. the doctor also gives him 400mg amoxicillin (which i don't think does much). what does help tremendously is pills he gets called tussigon. the problem is it's only a few days after the pills are gone and he's coughing again. x-rays show a lot of bronchial scarring on his right lung. he hacks until he sounds like he will vomit. i found the temaril-p on this site and wonder if it might be a good try. i would like to do more for him than has been done so he can get permanent relief. thank you.
A: Temaril p can sometimes be helpful with these kind of coughs. make sure complete workup has been done. may want to ask for a transtracheal wash for a definitive diagnosis of cough. likely is allergic or inflammatory in nature. also may want to consider aminophylline which is carried by many vets and can help dilate airways and does not have many side effects

Sleeping pills
Q: I have a 14 year old male boston terrier, and he wakes me up at 1 am every morning, would giving him valerian root help him sleep ? he has also been diagonised with blastomycocis, so will the valerian root be ok to use, he weighs 31 lbs.
A: I have not used this herb in my practice. i would try some natural flower essences like rescue remedy from health food store

One a day pills
Q: I have been giving my dogs one a day pills (nemacide) since 1980. i am having a hard time finding them. do you know where i can purchase them? if not, what is the best possible monthly to give them? i have irish setters over 50 lbs. i do frontline for fleas and ticks and have never had a problem with any types of worms. i would perfer the one a day if they are still around. any help would be appreciated. thank you, dorothy kumpula
A: Nemacide has been discontinued. you need to begin using a monthly heartworm preventative such as interceptor. however, interceptor needs to be started within 30 days of the last nemacide dose, otherwise a new heartworm test needs to be done.
Shop for: interceptor, tick, frontline
