Heartworm pills
Q: My 1yr. old cat ate my dogs heartworm chewable pill. what if anything should i do. will this be life threatening?
A: Should not a problem at all. dont worry

Going to the bathroom too much.
Q: My cat is a couple of days away from taking his 2nd and last dose of his tapeworm pills that i got from the vet. he wasn't doing that until i came back from the vet, and while they were their at the vets office they got a virus and we treated it with clavamox, they are still on that doseage. he is constantly going to the litter boxes and tring to poop, but most of the time noting comes out. to the best of my knowledge there is no blood, diarreia, or anything like that. all i see is that he is just making too many trips. i am wondering, could that be a side affect of the worms or the pills, or maybe another problem.
A: I dobubt from meds. but it could be urinary problem so should return to vet as male cats can have bladder issues which can lead to blockages

Skin problems
Q: I have 2 cats. one has problems with her skin like scabs and pulling her hair out. when you try to touch her she goes nuts and starts moving her head all around while her tounge goes in and out of her mouth and eventually she will bite you. my other cat has started to develope scabs now too and she sneezes alot too. what can i do except take them to the vet for a cortazone shot. sorry about my spelling.
A: You can try oral antihistamine like chlorphenirimine at dose of 2 mg twice daily. also supplement her with derm caps and prozyme to each meal which can help skin when used long term. can get these from 1800petmeds
Shop for: antihistamine, prozyme, 1800petmeds

Dog has bumps on his skin
Q: My dog has small bumps on him after he pulls his hair out and chews open the lumps he stops the itching and chewing i take him to the vets at least 3 times a year and all he ever does is give him a chortazone shot and pills this works for a few months then i have to take him in again won't all of these shots and pills hurt him and why can't my vet tell me whats wrong. at 135.00 a visit 3 times a year he should be able to find out why he itches and chews and what the lumps are.. i have another dog and he is fine can you help
A: I agree. you need definitive diagnosis if problem persists or reoccurs so that you can treat underyling problem. for example you may want to ask about blood allergy testing to find out what he could be allergic to such as inhalent allergens of grass, dander, pollens, dust, etc. also could be food allergic so should try low allergy diet like california natural lamb and rice diet by natura brand. also could have skin biopsy done of bumps if not simple infection

Stool eating
Q: I also have a beagle that eats other dog and rabbits stool. how soon will i see the difference after i start giving my pet the deter pills? thanks
A: This product is usually effective within 2 weeks. however, if the product is not working, the manufacturer recommends using double the dose for an additional 2 weeks.

Hip pain
Q: What can i do to help my cat with hip joint pain. tried the powder on her food but would not take it. any liquid i can give her? she cannot take pills either.any help would be appreciated.
A: You can ask your vet about new prescription drug known as metacam. although not approved for use in cats, many vets across north america have been using it very effectively off label for arthritic cats. has to be dosed just right and monitored for side effects. also you could try cosequin for cats from 1800petmeds which can help long term. also consider giving cat extra antioxidant vitamins like vitamin c in form of ester c which may come in liquid at dose of 250 mg twice daily(try health food store) also vitamin e at 100iu daily mixed on food. also consider proanthocyanidins from health food store at dose of 10 mg once to twice daily
Shop for: vitamin, 1800petmeds
Excessive shedding
Q: I have a 4 yr. old yellow lab and a 2 yr. old golden. both shed terribly, which i guess comes with the breed. i have been told, however, there are supplements they can take to reduce shedding. is this so? my lab sheds way more than the golden and it's really out of control. would the fact that they're both on adult lite science diet or in the past adult lite eukanuba affect their coats as far as shedding? is there something missing from their diet? i see that brewer's yeast tablets indicate they help with shedding but the dosage is 1 pill per every 10 lbs. that would be 6 pills per day per dog. that seems a bit much. what do you suggest?
A: I dont like these lite foods as i feel they do supplement nutrients as well as calories and therefore i find alot of dogs who eat these foods have poor quality coats. i would use supplements like prozyme from 1800petmeds as well as flax seed oil at 1 tea per 20 pounds of body weight daily, as well as lecithin and kelp from health food store. check out dr. pitcairns guide to natural health for dogs and cats by richard pitcairn for more suggestions and dosages
Shop for: prozyme, 1800petmeds

Serious infestation
Q: I am at my wits end. we bombed the house, laid seven dust in the yard, put frontline on the dog, gave him the oral flea pills, gave him a flea bath and dip, and have a flea collar on him and he is still infested. i don't know what else to do. i have an exterminator coming on saturday but i don't see how that will help if the dog is covered in them already. would it help to shave all of the dog's hair off?
A: It wont help to shave. consider excellent quick kill product like capstar which you can use orally for a few days. you have to treat house appropriately to solve this one. exterminator is good idea.
Shop for: capstar, frontline
