Shedding
Q: My 5yr old lab has always shed. i've become acustomed to using a lint brush daily before leaving the house. but this year, it is out of control. is it possible that this year the seasons is worse than others? and why? what weather factors create these conditions? could she be sick, and need vitamins? also, there is no simple product to elivate this symptom, dr's. recommend pills, shampoos, diet, food, ect. what is best product for yellow labs, and please explain, why do they lose so much hair? is it constantly growing back? does the summer months create more shedding, because they are hot dogs?(ha, ha) my lab loves to swim, and i keep her cool in her pool, but the fur is never ending. please help my fur monster. with fur & love, miss macey dog
A: I will answer most of your many questions below. shedding is due to many factors many of which you review above, including dietary factors, seasonal factors, allergies, etc all which differ in each dog. when i have an excessively shedding dog i usually make sure they are on superior diet such as all natural ones like pet guard or innova brand or wellness brands being my favorite. i also like to supplement with extra nutrients and enzymes like brite coat xs as well as prozyme from 1800petmeds. also consider getting some kelp and lecithin granules from health food store to add to food which also helps some dogs

Tapeworm
Q: If my cat has tapeworms, and i order the bottle with 3 pills in it will that be enough to get rid of them, or will i need more then 3 pills?
A: That depends on the weight of the cat and the medication you will be using. the veterinarian evidently ordered the 3 pills based on those factors.
My dogs nose is really dry
Q: Please tell me how to help my golden retrievers nose it is really dry and when we got him (harlie ) he had a real bad cold we took him to the vet and got pills to help that but i"m worryed about his nose being so dry not wet at all
A: I recommend having him rechecked by your veterinarian. there are many potential causes for the dryness. your veterinarian can help resolve this.
In ref. to flea, tick & heartworm medication
Q: We have a bouvier named "sassy," after many tests we have found out she was infected with a tick and has lyme disease. our doctor has her on doxycycline 100mg. (is this a good medication for her treatment. we give her 1 & 1/2 pills twice a day) we are not sure how long she has been infected but i think it may have been for some time. i have her on advantage, and no heartworm medication. . i have heard about revolution and wanted to know if this is something that i should consider for her after we take care of this immediate problem. another question is in regards to the lyme disease, is there any long term problems once she has been infected. we are so concerned about her and want to keep her safe and happy. she is a little over 8years old and a very small bouvier, about 65#. A: Doxycycline is the drug of choice for the treatment of lyme disease. if you follow your veterinarian's instructions for care and treatment there should be no long term effects, depending on how long the pet had untreated disease. your pet should be on heartworm medication. revolution is an effective product.
